CODIX (Configurable Online Data and Information eXchange system) allows the development of cost effective, efficient and reliable electronic transaction switching and processing systems.
Codix is a transaction engine, designed to process, switch or log various electronic transaction types in a defined manner. The system allows for multiple application handlers, providing the ability to simultaneously handle differing transaction types in a single system. For example, one Codix system could process loyalty transactions, forward financial transactions, and switch cheque authorisations simultaneously.
The base system allows electronic transactions in any format to be accepted. Codix then determines how to handle the transaction based on defined criteria. The transaction is generally logged to the database and any further action specified for this type of transaction is then taken, eg. a response transaction can be sent back or an authorisation transaction can be sent on to another host system.
With a highly configurable message builder and by incorporating generic application handlers, we can implement systems that meet the unique requirements of each of our customers in a more cost effective manner than would be possible with traditional hard-coded solutions.
Its modular and general purpose design allows Codix to be configured to suit many differing applications, from on-line loyalty applications to financial transaction switching.
Codix provides a set of building blocks which can be configured to provide a wide range of transaction processing and switching applications.
Typical applications which can be readily supported by Codix are online EFTPOS payment and loyalty systems, financial transaction switching, credit card authorisation, SmartCard transaction processing, and Internet e-Commerce payment systems.
Codix is well suited to online loyalty processing, having the ability to accept loyalty purchase and redemption transactions from the EFTPOS network (TTS), or from an organisation's virtual private network.
Standard transactions supported are loyalty purchase, loyalty redemption, logon, and settlement. Additional features can be added to tailor the Codix handler to support unique marketing ideas for individual retailers' loyalty programmes.
Online loyalty transactions allow the corporate retailer to communicate with his customer directly and cost effectively by returning a personal message with the transaction response to the POS or EFT device.
Codix can interface to the retailer's existing customer database, data warehouse applications, or customer loyalty systems.
Codix can be configured to accept, verify and authorise third-party card transactions, including credit or debit accounts, with optional PIN authorisation in either case.
A transaction processing system could also use a remote system for authorising transactions, or perhaps just particular transactions such us those over a certain floor limit.
This allows an organisation to issue its own private-label cards, and to accept electronic transactions from a variety of sources including EFTPOS, voice response (telephone banking) systems, Internet or other electronic devices.
With support for widely accepted financial transaction message formats (ISO8583, AS2805, and VISA I / II), Codix can also be used to switch financial transactions, eg. credit card authorisations, EFTPOS transactions, or cheque authorisations.
Electronic transactions can be sent to Codix, which sorts, concentrates and routes the transactions to other banks or host systems on a per-card or per-terminal basis. Response transactions are in turn routed back to the originating device.
With a central collection and forwarding point for financial transactions, widely dispersed EFTPOS and data networks can be integrated, providing considerable cost savings to the corporate chain. In addition, it enables the organisation to monitor and manage the flow of transactions from its individual locations or POS devices.
Codix runs on Sun hardware with the Solaris operating system, providing both the reliable hardware platform and the real-time operating system necessary for online transaction processing systems. Sun hardware is reliable and scalable, with an affordable entry level.
Codix uses an Informix Online database engine, to provide fast, high throughput access to the validation and configuration tables, and to log transactions and events. Informix supports a number of features to enhance data integrity, including disk mirroring, database archiving. automatic data recovery, transaction logging, and database replication. Informix is also completely scalable, allowing the system to be extended for higher data throughput.
Once installed, Codix requires no maintenance to continue operation. It automatically archives old transactions and performs backups. Codix stores detailed log files and error log files. Optionally, a watchdog can monitor the error log and take action on certain error codes - for example, sending email to an administrator.
If two Sun machines are installed at the location, Codix can be installed on both and configured to do a warm changeover in the case of a hardware failure on the primary machine. Concurrent (load-sharing) systems are also supported.
Codix is a flexible and configurable transaction engine, around which can be built efficient, but sophisticated, applications that allow businesses to take control of their own transaction processing requirements.
Perception is continuing to enhance this product, adding new features and facilities which enrich the system, offering real business benefits to our customers.
